Process Blog - Instruction Set for Strange Research

Instruction Set for Stranger is a project aims to design an intervention for a space that enables strangers to interact.

My group decided to set up an installation near Roosevelt Island tram station where has small plaza with a beautiful bridge and river view. We went there a few times at different day and time to observe the place and search about the history of tram station and Roosevelt Island in general.

The current Tramway Station

We observe what people are doing around the space and notice that most of the people tend to stay this area longer if they were tourists.

We have noticed that there is a RI status near the tram exit, some tourists often take a photo with it but most of people ignore it completely. We did some research around this status and found out that there are many residents actually feel disappointed about it.

Based on the all the research and observation, we have create the narrative of the space as below:
