Epic Abstraction is an exhibition in The Met that features large-scale abstract painting and sculpture from the 1940s through the early 21 century. I personally love abstract painting simply because I enjoy to experience the atmosphere that artists were trying to create more than look closely into the sophisticated techniques and details.
It was a surprise to me that I found One of Richard Diebenkorn's Ocean Park in this exhibition. Diebenkorn is one of my favorite artists who is a master of color mix and match. The first time I saw his paintings on a website, I can feel the sunshine, weather, mood, peace, chaos from his paintings. That's the power of abstract painting. It diminishes the very detailed information of a scenery, but keeps the story. There are a few artists I also found their work evoke the similar emotion: Sam Gilliam, Mark Rothko and Frank Stella.
